Proverbs 14 – Different kind of work

“All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.”

Proverbs‬ ‭14:23‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I work two jobs. One, I am a Pastor. I write sermons every week, plan Sunday worship service, connect with my church folks. The other, I work in a grocery store. I’ve had several roles in the store: barista, grocery stocker, and frozen/refrigerated foods buyer. Presently I’m an assistant manager in the grocery department.

No matter if it was church meetings or grocery team meetings…I also had problems with sitting and talking as part of the day. Many times I would feel more fulfilled doing things with my hands. Physical activity.

Recently I’ve had to reflect on the benefit of delegation and appreciate the hard work I do when I’m in meetings, behind a desk writing up training documents, filling out pastor reports or writing sermons. It’s not mere talk, though that was my impression of it. It’s hard work, just of a different kind.

Not my actual workplace.
