Proverbs 15 – He Sees You When You’re Sleeping…

The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.

Proverbs 15:3

Did you ever wonder why people believe St. Nicolas could “see you when you’re sleeping,” and “knows when you’re awake?” It is really the next line that takes the cake: “he knows if you’ve been bad or good.” This is a god-like quality, attributed to Santa Claus through song and legend. However the bible tells us that the Lord is the one who can do this. The technical term for this is “Omnipresent.” Everywhere always. Nothing beyond his sight or reach.

When the omnipresence of God is understood, it makes better sense to fear God. The very last verse of this chapter says:

Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord,
    and humility comes before honor.

Proverbs 15:33 NIV

When you know and believe God is always watching, it probably does affect your decision making process. And you are wiser for it, showing discretion.
