Have you ever met someone you could describe as a “know-it-all?” I didn’t matter if they weren’t an expert authority on the matter at hand, their opinion was the best one. This is exactly the type of person who needs to hear this verse. Discernment is not just knowing the right information, but also knowing when and how to apply it. It’s seeing a bigger picture than just the immediate. The wise person knows this, yet are humble in their ways.

“Gracious words promote instruction.” When you attack someone, identifying their wrong doing or thinking, they more than likely will be shut off to future instruction. If we were gracious toward them, they may be more receptive to guidance and instruction.
