“Keep to a path far from her, do not go near the door of her house, lest you lose your honor to others and your dignity to one who is cruel, lest strangers feast on your wealth and your toil enrich the house of another.”
Proverbs 5:8-10 NIV
This passage very clearly directly applies to keeping clear from adultery. This passage makes reference of strangers feasting on your wealth. The one you commit adultery with and anyone associated with them. But also this you you have wronged by this act can feast on your wealth.
How true this is today as divorce proceedings and settlements, Alimony and other such financial complications come from marriages that fail- many of them because of infidelity.
But either way, when a court orders you to pay X dollars to provide for the person you’re no longer married to or for the children you had together, it it is taken by force from your paycheck. You continuing to work and toil to enrich the house of another. Then of course, having more taking out of a paycheck can tend to demotivate said worker from working. How do we avoid all this?
Stay true to the wife of your youth. Honor your marriage vows. Drink only from your own cistern. Don’t go looking for trouble. Because if you go looking for it, you just might find it.
